The Tenant by Freida McFadden Book Cover

What in the Limonene is going on!?

Freida McFadden is back with The Tenant, a twisty domestic thriller filled with tension, secrets, and just enough absurdity to make you laugh out loud. Meet Blake and Krista, a struggling couple who decide to rent out a room in their Brownstone to make ends meet. Enter Whitney: beautiful, bubbly… and maybe a bit too perfect.

As mysterious noises echo in the night and neighbors begin acting strange, Blake starts to wonder if he’s invited something far more dangerous than he bargained for. Between awkward goldfish symbolism, limonene overload, and a twist that flips everything on its head (but maybe not in the best way), The Tenant is a chaotic, fast-paced ride that’s entertaining, occasionally eye-roll-inducing, but undeniably Freida.

Whether you love McFadden’s signature “wait, what?” plot turns or find yourself yelling at the characters (looking at you, Blake), this book delivers bingeable drama, messy relationships, and thriller tropes with a side of sass. Oh, and don’t ask about the epilogue.

A fun, fast read with familiar Freida chaos. Just don’t expect it to change your life… or make you like Blake.

Dear Future Me

Dear Future Me by Deborah O’Connor is a hauntingly clever mystery that starts with a simple idea: a high school class writing letters to their future selves. But when those letters are mailed out twenty years later, what should’ve been a nostalgic moment takes a dark turn when Miranda, one of the former students, dies by suicide the very day her letter arrives. Her best friend, Audrey, is convinced it wasn’t a coincidence.

This novel is far more than a whodunit. It’s layered, emotional, and full of quiet tension that keeps you flipping pages. Deborah O’Connor masterfully builds a web of secrets and emotional reckonings as the past comes crashing into the present. The pacing is tight, the twists are satisfying, and there’s a real human heart beneath all the mystery.

It’s one of those stories you find yourself thinking about even when you’re not reading. A detail here, a reveal there, it all clicks together in ways that feel both surprising and earned. If you love mysteries with emotional depth and a bit of psychological suspense, this one’s for you.

Highly recommended. Five stars.

The Trials of Lila Dalton Book Cover

The Trials of Lila Dalton by L.J. Shepherd is a sharp and suspenseful debut that blends courtroom drama with psychological mystery, led by a protagonist who wakes up with no memory of who she is or why she’s standing in front of a jury.

Lila Dalton finds herself in a courtroom, dressed like a lawyer, with twelve jurors staring back at her. She doesn’t know where she is, how she got there, or even her own name at first. It turns out she’s defending a man accused of killing twenty-seven people in a mass attack, and it seems the evidence is stacked against him. But Lila has no idea how the case came to be in her hands. Even more chilling, she’s on a remote island where the most serious crimes are tried, and she can’t leave unless she wins.

The pressure builds when threatening calls warn her that her child will be harmed if she doesn’t get her client acquitted. With no one she can fully trust, Lila begins to dig into the case, slowly uncovering secrets not just about the trial but about herself. As the story unfolds, the mystery only deepens. Lila has to piece together what happened, who she is, and how everything connects before time runs out.

This is a story filled with unexpected twists and eerie tension. L.J. Shepherd crafts a layered, fast-paced narrative that keeps readers guessing. It’s a locked-room thriller with a legal twist, where memory loss and hidden motives blur the line between truth and deception. For a debut, it’s not only bold but refreshingly original.

If you enjoy legal thrillers with strong female leads and mind-bending mysteries, The Trials of Lila Dalton is a book you won’t want to miss.

Sister, Butcher, Sister by K.D. Aldyn Book Cover

Sister, Butcher, Sister by KD Aldyn is an absolute knockout of a thriller and easily my favorite read of 2025 so far.

This family life based novel dives deep into the lives of the Rowling sisters; Kate, Aurora, and Peggy, three women who seem ordinary on the surface but hide dark, dangerous secrets. One of them is a ruthless serial killer with a chilling method of hunting men, and the story keeps you guessing about which sister it is right up to the very last page.

The narrative’s multi-perspective structure is masterfully done, allowing readers to step into the minds of each sister, including the killer’s own unreliable and haunting viewpoint. The tension builds steadily throughout, with twists that twist and turn until you’re left breathless. The story moves fluidly between past and present, revealing layers of trauma and memories connected to the family home that the oldest sister, Kate, has recently bought back. This house holds both warm nostalgia and terrifying shadows from their childhood, forcing the sisters to confront how their past shapes their present.

If you’re a fan of suspense and dark psychological thrillers, this book is a must-read. It’s wild, gory, and packed with intense emotions that will leave you feeling all sorts of conflicted, even strangely sympathizing with the killer despite the brutal crimes. Expect a story full of sharp surprises, rich character depth, and a chilling atmosphere that lingers long after the last page.

Sister, Butcher, Sister hits shelves on June 10, 2025, and trust me, you’ll want to have this one on your reading list all year long.
