In a world increasingly full of grim and gritty thrillers, the return of the Thursday Murder Club in Richard Osman's latest, The Impossible Fortune, is like a warm, witty cup of tea on a cold day. While this instalment finds our favourite octogenarian sleuths juggling floral arrangements and seating charts—with Joyce, ever the meticulous planner, leading the charge—don't let the lighthearted wedding setting fool you. Below the surface of first dances and family drama (Ron's got his hands full, as usual), a genuinely tricky puzzle is brewing.

This time, the stakes are higher and deeply personal, especially for Elizabeth, who is quietly grappling with loss even as she's dragged back into the fray by a desperate wedding guest. The plot hinges on an 'uncrackable code,' pushing Ibrahim's unique analytical skills to the limit, and forcing the gang to face a villain who is ruthless enough to bypass their usual charming distractions. If you've been waiting for a cozy mystery that delivers both laughs and genuine high-stakes tension, The Impossible Fortune is the one to grab.”
