Melissa Febos is a national bestselling author celebrated for her compelling and insightful storytelling. She has written five remarkable books, including Whip Smart, Abandon Me, and Girlhood, which earned the prestigious National Book Critics Circle Award in Criticism. Another notable work is Body Work: The Radical Power of Personal Narrative, showcasing her fearless exploration of identity and truth. Her much-anticipated memoir, The Dry Season, is set to be released on June 3, 2025, by Alfred A. Knopf.

Throughout her career, Melissa has been honored with numerous awards and fellowships from distinguished organizations such as the Guggenheim Foundation, LAMBDA Literary, the National Endowment for the Arts, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, The British Library, The Black Mountain Institute, MacDowell, the Bogliasco Foundation, The Barbara Deming Foundation, Vermont Studio Center, Virginia Center for Creative Arts, and The American Library in Paris, among others.

Beyond her writing, Melissa Febos serves as a full professor at the University of Iowa. She lives in Iowa City with her wife, the poet Donika Kelly.
